Emily Isn’t in Paris, She’s in a Coma, Hallucinating About Paris

The creator of Emily in Paris, Darren Star, has explained the creative concept behind the series.

“Emily never actually made it to Paris? She’s still in Chicago because on her way to the airport, a car crash left her in a coma, so strongly sedated that she’s in the grip of a powerful hallucination.”

“Since Emily has the imagination of a 12-year-old, she imagines every fool idea she has, is a stroke of American genius. On top of this, she dreams that she’s adored by every single French person she meets.”

“Now, anyone who knows anything about Parisians, knows this has never happened to anyone in Paris, much less an American simpleton, like the one Lily Collins so plausibly depicts.”

“Obviously,” Star, the creator behind a string of other hit shows like Beverly Hills, 90210Melrose Place and Sex and the City, said, “Emily in Paris is ‘a silly brain vacation’ for people too tired after work to do anything but slob out in front of the TV, eating instant noodles”.
