Bezos – “I Was Only Defending Democracy”
An angry Jeff Bezos today explained that while a good newspaper can suggest what you should eat, listen to, read, wear or buy, as well as how you should parent, diet, take exercise or invest, the one thing it should never do, is even hint at how you should vote.
“The Washington Post‘s journalists just don’t seem to understand the risk that would pose to my wider business interests, if you-know-who gets back in?”
Bezos added it was “a complete coincidence” his executives met Donald Trump the same day the newspaper prevented its editorial team from endorsing Kamala Harris.
Staff released a statement saying “The Post’s motto has changed from ‘Democracy Dies in Darkness‘ to ‘Democracy Died in Broad Daylight‘.
Bezos confirmed the paper was still losing subscribers, on top of the 250,000 it had already lost since Friday.
Meanwhile Bernie Sanders tweeted “this decision reminds us the real power of the press is not to publish but to suppress”
