Despite What The Song Says, Husband Tells Wife, There’s Plenty Of Sunshine When You’re Gone

“Ain’t no sunshine when she’s gone,” Julie Wilson sang into her loving husband Craig’s still sleep-filled eyes, as she prepared to give him a list of instructions for the day. He blearily gazed back at her, while he listened to a breezy countdown of annoying errands.

“Don’t forget you have to be at the dry cleaners before 10am and then you have to collect the cake from Bake My Day, across the road? I’ve texted you the shopping list and left the vouchers on the kitchen table. And call me, after you’ve been to the post office? Because I can’t pay the electricity bill until you do, genius.

As Craig continued to blink uncertainly at the ceiling, she continued. “The car tax has to be renewed as well, so that’s handy because it’s just around the corner and I’ll be ready for lunch by then, so you can pick me up a sandwich for 12.30?” As she looked down at his slightly bewildered, groggy face, she laughed indulgently, “It’s well for some! I wish I had a day off…”

A brief interval of silence ensued and then, just before she left, she resumed singing Ain’t No Sunshine When She’s Gone. Barely giving him time to mutter, “There’s plenty of sunshine, actually. Just no bloody time to enjoy it!”
