SF Asking Voters To Swap Northern Failure For Southern Failure
At a Sinn Fein press conference today, a man wearing a Communist Party of Ireland t-shirt, accused the party of asking voters to switch allegiance from a failed state to a failing state.
“I’m s-sorry,” SF deputy leader Pearse Doherty said into the stunned silence that followed, “I don’t understand?”
The man replied “North of the border, you refer to a ‘failed state’ but south of the border, you call the republic ‘a failing state’. My question is this, what’s the point in swapping ‘the grey skies’ of northern failure for ‘the grey skies’ of southern failure?”
Muffled laughter broke out after the man had finished speaking, followed by more widespread laughter when somebody in the audience shouted, “Fail again, fail better?”
Party representatives on the platform went into a huddle and the longer it went on, the noisier the crowd got. But eventually, Doherty came back to the microphone. “As you probably already know, if you break something in two, it won’t work? Partition broke Ireland. And that’s why both parts of it don’t work.”
Applause broke out but afterward the man said, “That’s all very well but as far as I’m concerned, it completely ignores the question.”
